Pele's real name was Edson Arantes do Nascimento. His father name was Dondinho and his mother was called Celeste. In school Pele had problems with school. In 1952, Waldemar de Brito, a famous soccer player, saw Pele play, and he said that "he was the only one who stood out". When Pele was thirteen he went to play with the "Brito young team". Then, when he was fifteen, he played with Santos, a major soccer team. On September 7, 1956, Pele scored his first goal for Santos. The 1958 World Cup was played in Sweeden and thanks to Pele, they won! During the 1959 he scored 127 goals. Many foreign teams wanted Pele to play for them and offered him millions of dollars, but he refused. Pele didn't drink liquors. In 1965, he scored 101 goals. On October 1, 1997, Pele gave a speech before playing his last game. He scored his last goal of 1, 281.
